Here’s Why Wale Passed On Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again”

There are always those tracks that artists are offered and ultimately end up passing on for whatever reason. It simply may not fit their image or they may too busy, but when it comes to Wale, it might just be downright depressing to record. Early Sunday morning, Wale revealed he is now one of the poor souls who will be forever remembered as a footnote rather than a benefactor of a massive hit.

Participating in a conversation about
music trivia, the D.C. native confessed he was offered the
opportunity to work on “See You Again,” the song Wiz Khalifa would eventually help turn into one of the biggest rap songs in history.

“That’s Timbaland on the hook on “clappers” in the background . I
turned “see you again” down cuz it was way too sad for me to write,” Wale explained.

Quick reminder: Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” a single featuring and written by Charlie Puth off the Furious 7 soundtrack, spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the first hip-hop music video to reach a billion plays on YouTube. Life to date, the record has been streamed 656M times on Spotify and is certified 7x Platinum by the RIAA.
